My Story

My life was normal until the age of five when my father passed on from suicide. After this my life became very hectic with my mother working almost all week and by brother falling behind in school and causing  issues at home. My only escape from this busy world was art. Art has helped me express myself without a single word coming out of my mouth. My father is the true reason I have become and maintain to be an artist whether it be using a camera or using colored pencils. When I make my art it is an escape to a quiet and calm world where I rule and keep track of. I don’t let many people into my world but I will show them a taste of it. My big career goal is to be an art teacher so I can teach others the love of art and how they can create anything their heart desires. Decision making is one of the bigger parts in making art, like where to put this or that in your art piece. I usually try to make everything balanced in my art work so it doesn’t feel heavy on one side ot the other. My art work has many principles and elements of design in them including; line, color, space, texture, unity, movement, pattern, rhythm, and space. When I am making a work it usually only has one or a few all of those components at once or else it will usually get too busy and become distracting. In one of my pieces that I’ve made a black and white drawing with a red heart in the middle of it to add emphasis, in another I did a colored pencil drawing of a barn owl and the background was completely black which added space and emphasis. I use the elements and principle of design in my work to add interest, creativity and amazement. I want the person looking at my art work to keep looking and get inspired, I want them to feel excitement and be amazed by it or just a little something to know that they liked it in general. My art represents a mix of fantasy and photo realism, I like to do a mix of both because I’m able to make what I want instead of following guidelines or rules. My current work has been leaning more towards the realism that I like to do because of my art projects and class work. I have grown so much from my past art work and I’ve very proud of myself because I keep moving forward with new styles that I like and not dwelling in the past of what I did wrong. I use my past experiences and take them to heart to improve my work. I’m trying right now to expand my horizons and see what style I like and what I can change with my work to make it better or different. My work is unique because I have interesting designs and original drawings and no one could copy my work because it’s one of a kind and that’s what I like most about art. It’s also unique because I do my work a certain way and I add certain element and principles in them, like contrast or spacing. “Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.”- Scott Adams
